I recently had the opportunity to road trip to DC to celebrate a milestone in my brother’s life! Spence has lived in DC for the past 7 years and will now be moving on to NYC.
Unfortunately spending the last several years in school, working, and starting my own business, I was unable to visit as I would have liked. However DC has been my very favorite city for about the last 4 years. Like many, I admire its rich history and many attractions but there’s also something I find so approachable and welcoming about its general layout and air! I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly, but I feel very at home within the city. I wouldn’t mind calling it home for an extended period of time and over turning all the local gems it has to offer!
This trip we spent the weekend doing some sight seeing as our exchange student was traveling with us and we wanted to let him explore a bit. We visited many monuments, walked the mall, and ate at several of our favorite local restaurants. Over all it was a wonderful weekend with the family and a chance to celebrate, wish well, and send off my brother to his new journey in NYC.
As the days roll by, I become increasingly aware of how special family time is. Life is constantly changing, and in the end, I’m not going to be reminiscing about the stuff I did or did not have, I’m going to be remembering all the memories and interactions of people and things from my past.
When asked why I want to photograph, one thing always comes to mind; I want to give people the memory of moments that have passed them by. I want to freeze time so they can return and remember it all over again!
Blessings,
Hannah
